References to Classical Legal Philosophy in Thomas Jefferson’s Thought: Stoicism, Epicureanism and Natural law

Abstract
This article formulates the need to approach the reception of Greek and Roman thought by Thomas Jefferson from the perspective of legal philosophy, in order to determine the extent of the influence exercised by schools of thought like Stoicism or Epicureanism, in concepts like Jefferson’s understanding of Natural law. Therefore, it is necessary to clarify if Classical political thought actually transcended a mere formative role or, even, the use as a purely stylistic and formal element, as it has been sometimes defended in the scientific literature.
