Abstract

A partir de libros de actas capitulares y documentación complementaria se analizan los sistemas de información, vigilancia, prevención y sanitarios de Requena en las pestes del siglo XVI y XVII. Además de la ejemplificación de los canales de información establecidos y de la política sistematizada de defensa contra las epidemias, se incide en el análisis de elementos singulares de Requena como su posición geográfica y condición de puerto y aduana de Castilla y, por tanto, posible barrera contra la peste impulsada desde la Corte. Se estudian los diversos factores que pudieron incidir en una menor virulencia de la peste en la ciudad.
