Abstract

The present work analyzes four non-adapted anglicisms in American Spanish. In the first place, it contextualizes the origin of the words and the historical context in which they arise. Then it studies the presence of the words in five lexicographical works published in the last ten years: the Diccionario de mexicanismos (2010), the Diccionario de uso del español de Chile (2010), the Diccionario del habla de los argentinos (2010), the Diccionario de americanismos (2010) and the Diccionario de colombianismos (2018). Thirdly, various press articles from Mexico, Chile, Colombia and Argentina are randomly screened in order to discover whether selected anglicisms are part of the common lexicon of their speakers. Finally, the type of sources used for the elaboration of the dictionaries is examined.
