This paper is the first part of a more ambitious project, which will be continued in following issues. Information is presented about the constraints imposed on the perception of the locución concept (adverbial, conjunctive, prepositive) by the grammar theory (and more specifically syntax theory) which dominated over most part of Spanish grammar tradition; also about how those difficulties were solved. Tables are offered which contain “locuciones prepositivas” found in 64 grammar texts published between 1555 and 1930; in such tables it is also mentioned which concrete units were fixed by each studied author.
