Abstract

From 1613 onwards, stemming from the gradual distribution of Polifemo and Soledades , the Gongorian polemic  begins and maintains its intensity throughout the fifty years that follow. In the exchange of opinions between those for and those against this “new poetry”, a variety of arguments are found, all with the aim of promoting or, on the contrary, rejecting the authority of Góngora at that point in time. The reasons given by the participants in the debate had originated in poetics and grammatical treaties and continued to do so, even if, on occasions, simply as topics for reflection, and not necessarily as arguments for or against a poetic style, even though this was often the implicit aim. This paper will revise the diverse ways in which these issues were treated by the participants in the debate, as well as the originality or the written sources of such ways.
