Abstract

The aim of this paper is twofold. First, we analize a set of general topics: the specificity of languages for specific purposes, the different aproaches to the metaphor, the semantic field and the domains, the isotopy and also the role of the metaphor in science. Our approach follows the cognitive model (Lakoff & Johson 1980, 19939: metaphor belongs to our system of categorization of the reality. Second, we comment a set of exemples in French, novel metaphors  that designate key notions in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Immunology etc. (eg. ADN, gène, cellule). Our work claims that metaphors are the instrument used by the scientist and by the journalist forpassing from the conceptual domain (abstract one) to the experience domain, i.e. the mapping and bingding (Fauconnier & Turner (2000).
