Abstract

A representative selection of several passages of the latin historiography illustrate with examples the coincidence and difference between the modern languages and the one of the latium in the use of the forms of discourse reproduction. In the first ones there is just one indirect discourse which requires a conjunction as introductory element. latin language, for its part, has also one subordinate, characterized by the acI construction and with an even greater degree of integration into the story, and another one called "latin indirect discourse", independent and with a lesser integration. the best way to translate this unknown method for the modern languages is the free indirect speech, of stylistic-literary character, and known by the latin language.
