Call for papers HYBRIDA nº 11: «EXILIATES»
The eleventh issue of HYBRIDA magazine will focus on the theme of women artists in exile. Bearing the title EXILIATES, this Dossier seeks to explore the multiple dimensions of exile through the prism of women's experiences in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, focusing on the particular representations and narratives that characterise women's exile through literature, art, culture and the social sciences.
Exile, in its various forms, has always played a central role in many historical and social dynamics, whether in the form of forced migration, voluntary displacement or flight from unstable political, social or economic situations. However, the issue of exile as experienced by women has only been dealt with in a partial and specific way, even though it deserves particular attention from an intersectional perspective. Exiled women face a multitude of realities in which issues of gender, race, social class and nationality overlap. The exile of women highlights specific issues associated with the violence inherent in migration, the reconstitution of identity, the management of collective and personal memory, and the negotiation of spaces between the culture of origin and the host culture. The stories of these exiled women also offer a relevant perspective on the power relationships, resistance and empowerment strategies that develop along the way.
This Dossier is intended as a forum for academic reflection on the experience of female exile and on the various ways in which exile is experienced, recounted and analysed by women artists, taking into account the different geographical, historical, social and cultural configurations in which these journeys take place.
Contributions may address the following themes, among others:
- The female experience of exile: How do artists perceive uprooting? What are the particular obstacles they face throughout their migratory process?
- Literary and artistic discourse and representations of female exile: Study of literary, poetic, theatrical, cinematographic and musical narratives dealing with women's exile. How is exile narrated by the women themselves, or through their voices in the works of female authors?
- Exile and the construction of female identity: How does the experience of exile shape the transformation of female identity, between cultural heritage and adaptability in a new context?
context? - Power dynamics in women's exile: Does exile intensify gender-based relations of domination? What are the particular aspects of female migration in a context marked by social, political or family violence?
- Resistance and survival strategies: How do women resist the challenges of exile? What survival strategies do they use to maintain a balance between their past and their future?
The MOSAÏQUE section includes articles that do not respond to the Dossier's central theme, but which respect the perspectives proposed by the journal on cultural hybridisations and migrant identities. A creative section called TRACES features previously unpublished literary and artistic works by authors from all walks of life (texts, images, personal accounts, interviews, etc.). The ÉVENTAIL section is devoted to critical, literary and artistic reviews of recent works and publications.
