The French language, a vector of "being-with-the-others" in Fatou Diome and Léonora Miano

The question of the usefulness of French as a language of communication no longer seems to arise today. Even if some think that it is an exclusive property of the countries that have it as ancestral legacy: it is here about France. And that others, against the current, see it as an instrument of cultural alienation of French speakers from the former colonies of France. To put an end to these « sterile » debates that reveal the indispensability of French in Africa and in the world, Fatou Diome and Léonora Miano respectively demonstrate in their works on the one hand, that this language is an instrument for building positive otherness in the French-speaking world. And, on the other hand, it is a means of communication that enables people to meet in French-speaking sub-Saharan Africa. They agree that French is “an African language in its own right”.
