The emergence of HIV AIDS in the 1980s had a significant impact on the sex worker movement. It had to adapt to the new dangers posed by the disease itself as well as to public policies aimed at them as a “vector of contamination” or “at risk group”. This article highlights the example of activists in France and the United Kingdom who have eventually succeeded in bringing new approaches known as harm reduction and / or community based health.
