Abstract

The reduction of school failure is one of the main goals of Education policies. Both school dropout and low performance are signs of a complex phenomenon. The explanatory factors of low performance are multidimensional and operate at various scales: individual and family factors; Schooling variables; and others related to neighbourhood and regional environments. The multilevel analysis techniques results allow to discuss the effectiveness of educational policies that not only focus on classroom, designed for a student with an average performance.
