Abstract

Today's society enjoys a welfare state that is largely a consequence of the scientific and technological advances of previous eras (especially the last century). Currently, (non-specialist) citizens interested in scientific topics have access to them in a variety of ways, from the classic formats of books and popular science magazines, television, and radio programmes, to internet platforms and social networks. And while being published is not synonymous with being worthwhile and reliable, the visibility that science can gain from these media is a welcome change. In addition to reporting on scientific and technological advances, an important part of the content offered by these media consists of recreational science activities, which provide an opportunity to acquire scientific knowledge in an entertaining way.

Author Biography

Rafael García-Molina, University of Murcia (Spain)

Professor of Applied Physics at the University of Murcia (Spain). He studies the interaction of charged particles with matter, both theoretically and in simulations, to study how projectiles release their energy in different materials. He teaches physics and develops outreach projects using all kinds of resources, some of which have been selected and awarded prizes in different editions of «Ciencia en Acción» and «Science on Stage». In 2016 he received the Physics Teaching and Dissemination Award (University Teaching Modality) from the Royal Spanish Physics Society and the BBVA Foundation. He is a member of the Academy of Sciences of the Region of Murcia. He is currently editor of Revista Española de Física and deputy editor of Revista Eureka sobre Enseñanza y Divulgación de las Ciencias .
