Abstract
Diseases are not randomly disseminated through the population, since socioeconomic conditions have an enormous influence in the generation and spread of such diseases. There is important evidence in epidemiology, health economics and social sciences proving that poverty and economic crisis create imbalances in health, both individually and collectively. The actions of public institutions and civil organizations are essential to eliminate such health inequality, yet it is also necessary to establish a close cooperation between the forces and institutions involved. This is even more urgent nowadays given our current context of crisis, in which the economic gap between classes is quickly growing while the social welfare state is gradually disappearing.
