Abstract
This paper aims to explore the educational achievements of the members of legal and consensual couples residing in Argentina in 2003-2004, and then analyze the presence of educational homogamy / heterogamy in these couples. The homogamy is a powerful logic of social order, which is why the study of marital dynamics plays a fundamental role in the analysis of social structure. This phenomenon is part of a dynamic process by which populations and social hierarchies are reproduced. The research problem leads us to use a quantitative methodological strategy. Specifically, secondary data analysis of surveys of probability samples (2003-2004) conducted by the Center of Public Opinion Research - Buenos Aires University. The study applies techniques of descriptive statistics and inferential type. The main findings in the data analysis showed that the selection of spouses is not random and that the educational dimension is an important aspect at the composition of couples. Specifically, the trend of educational homogamy increase in younger couples.
