Crosslinguistic contrast to reflect about grammar in language teaching

Teaching languages in multilingual contexts involves taking into account the languages of schooling and students' home languages. It also involves teaching how to use them as a tool for communication and thought, as well as how to observe them as an object of study in order to understand their underlying rules, and the relationships that ensue between the meanings that they convey and the forms that they take. However, this focus on form is only effective for learners, when it is based on reflection as opposed to mere transmission of final disciplinary knowledge. This article focuses on recent research on cross-linguistic contrast as an effective tool for grammatical reflection in language teaching.
